Making your book

Making your book

YOUR IDEA

Edition One can help you make the book you’ve been imagining a reality. Whether you are interested in self-publishing, or simply creating a few samples to use while shopping around with larger publishers, there are a few things you can do on your own to ensure success. Below are some questions and guidelines to help you get started:

  • Who is your target audience? If your goal is to sell the book along with original prints, or as part of a lager portfolio, then a well-made hard cover book is likely best. Whereas gallery catalogs and promotional pieces might be best in softcover form.
  • How many copies do you need? If your answer is 10,000, you should consider a traditional printing and binding company. Edition One specializes in short to medium run books. If you need 50 copies, or 150 copies, we're likely your best option. However, we also provide prospective publishers a way to test their ideas and market. Perhaps you think you need 10,000 copies, but aren't sure. Let's make 500, and see how it goes.
  • No matter how great your idea is, you need a rough budget. If you intend to sell your book, then how much will your customers pay for it? If the book is a promotion, do you want many inexpensive books to give away, or is your work best represented by a more costly book you coud lend out?
  • Your timeline matters. If you want to launch the book at an upcoming opening, release party, or trade show. Its always best to plan well ahead. Contact us sooner rather than later to establish a timeline for your project.
